Bill Proposed to Lower State Required School Lockdown Drills to One a Year

A bill proposed in the state legislature would lower the state-mandated number of school lockdown and active shooter drills from four per school year to just one.

The state requires more of the drills than any other state, and supporters of the bill says that frequency is causing stress for children and staff.

Under the bill, parents would be told at least a week before the annual drill and would be able to opt their child out.
