Rochester City Council Votes Against City School District Budget

The Rochester City Council has cast a symbolic vote against the new city school district budget.

No members voted in favor of the budget last night, seven voted against it, and two abstained.

The City Council is required by law to vote on the school budget but has no authority to amend it -- and the budget will still take effect without Council support.

Council President Migues Melendez says the Council will seek changes to state law that would grant the Council actual oversight over the school budget.
