Monroe County Passes Bill Aimed at Reducing Theft of Catalytic Converters.

The Monroe County Legislature has approved legislation aimed at reducing the theft of catalytic converters.

The Legislature overrode County Executive Adam Bello's veto.

Under the bill, scrap yards must wait 2 weeks before handing over cash for a catalytic converter.

Scrap yards must see a government-issued ID from people selling a converter, and proof of ownership of the vehicle it came from.

And records of the transactions must be kept for three years.

Bello says the law won't prevent thieves from going to scrap yards outside the county.
