Faith Leaders Propose Rochester Community Public Safety Corps

Faith leaders in Rochester who have long been critical of the city police force are proposing an alternative -- a Rochester Community Public Safety Corps.

The head of the United Christian Leadership Ministry, Reverend Lewis Stewart, says funds could be reallocated from the RPD to fund the program. And he says it would bring peace into the community.

Stewart says this new program would mean police would have minimal contact with members of the community, except in cases of violence or accidents etc. where they would need to be involved.

Stewart says he'll be meeting with the mayor next month to discuss the details.
