State Police Warn of Online Scam Targeting Teenagers

State police want to warn parents that their teenagers are being targeted by criminals while they are online.

Investigators say predators locate teen victims on social media, friend or follow them, then ask the teens for photos and videos.

The images are then used to blackmail the teens -- sometimes for thousands of dollars.

At least one case has resulted in a teen victim committing suicide.

Police have released safety tips and guidelines to avoid falling for predator traps and say local police should be contacted if you feel you have been a victim of this crime.
