New Plan to Honor Tubman on U.S. Currency

Central New York Congressman John Katko has a new proposal to honor Harriet Tubman on U.S. currency.

He wants to create a Harriet Tubman Bicentennial Commemorative Coin for her 200th birthday next year.

Her life would be honored on $5 gold coins, $1 silver coins, and half-dollar coins.

Money raised from the sale of the coins would go to the Harriet Tubman home in Auburn, and the National Underground Railroad Freedom Center in Ohio.
