"Maisie's Law" Requires Narcan With Each Opioid Prescription

Monroe County Executive Adam Bello has signed a law requiring pharmacies to dispense a dose of Narcan with every prescription for opioid drugs they fill.

It's called "Maisie's Law," and is named after Maisie Gillan, a nine-month-old girl who died after swallowing a methadone pill she found on the floor of a neighbor's home.

Parents Adam and MaryBeth Gillan have since lobbied for safer handling of opioids.

Local officials hope the new law will start conversations about Narcan and how it can prevent overdose deaths.
