High School Sports to Resume Feb 1st

Updated Regulations from New York State say effective February 1st, local health authorities may authorize the resumption of higher-risk sports and recreation activities. That means high-risk school sports such as baseball, basketball and football can resume as of next month.

With Department of Health approval, athletes in the higher-risk sports may train and they can play games and in tournaments. Health departments are advised to deny permission if the more contagious U.K. version of COVID turns up in their region, or local COVID-19 transmission rates seem too high.

Monroe County Health Director Dr. Mike Mendoza and County Executive Adam Bello have issued a joint statement...saying they support the governor's proposal, and support allowing high school winter sports to resume in Monroe County. They say they'll be meeting with school districts in the coming days to develop plans so that Monroe County's young people can participate.

High School athletic departments including Pal-Mac and Canandaigua say they're working to get more details
