Former Acting Superintendent Says RCSD Budget Balanced Upon Leaving

We expect to hear more today from Rochester City School District officials about the big deficit.

New Superintendent Terry Dade hopes have to have more concrete numbers and the long term implications.

Dan Lowengard -- who served as acting superintendent through June -- says his finance department had to know the district was running a major deficit...but nobody told him.

Lowengard tells 13 WHAM he thought the budget was balanced when he left.

Lowengard says the district runs both internal and external audits at the end of each fiscal year, which is how school board members first learned of the problem last week.

The school board will hold a business meeting this evening.
