NY is listed as one of the safest states to live alone, according to a new study. The study by ASecureLife.com has New York at the number two spot, only behind New Jersey. Number one on the most dangerous list was Alaska, followed by Maryland. To compile their list, surveyors looked at property crime rates, violent crime rates, local law enforcement presence and percentage of singles- according to the latest census data.

More and more Americans are opting to live alone nowadays. The number of people living alone in the United States has grown from 5% in the 1920s to 27% in the latest census data (2013). 1 Despite these growing rates, living alone doesn't come without risk: people who live alone are more likely to be burglarized than those living in bigger, busier homes.
