RCSD Special Education Teacher Resigns

A special education teacher in the Rochester city schools with a criminal record has submitted his resignation.

As first reported by the "Democrat &Chronicle," James Doran was hired at School 19 in September -- despite his conviction for abusing special ed students while teaching in Las Vegas.

The Rochester City School District says he was hired after he was certified to teach by the state of New York.

But Doran had been convicted in Nevada on one count of misdemeanor battery, received a suspended sentence and was ordered to get counseling.
