Governor Cuomo Announcing New Measures to Protect Immigrants from ICE

Governor Cuomo is announcing new measures he says will -- in his words -- assist and protect immigrants targeted by Immigration and Customs enforcement and what he calls the federal government's anti-immigrant policies.

Cuomo is announcing what he calls the Liberty Defense Project, and he says it is a first-of-its-kind network of regional providers and lawyers who can better respond to ICE enforcement actions in the state. And Cuomo's administration has selected 21 new Opportunity Centers across the state to deliver services, education and guidance to immigrants in their neighborhoods.

The Legal Aid Society of Rochester and the Catholic Family Center in Monroe County are among the agencies recruited by the governor.
