Swimmers from SUNY Will Have to Pay for Trip to Division III Championships

Governor Cuomo is keeping in place the ban on state-paid travel to North Carolina, even though it means swimmers from SUNY campuses won't have their hotel costs covered when they compete in the upcoming Division III championships.

The governor's ban took effect in 2016, when North Carolina adopted a law requiring that people use the restrooms in government buildings that correspond to their gender at birth.

Though that law was partially repealed the following year, the governor's senior adviser issued a statement yesterday saying that "as long as this anti-LGBTQ law remains in effect" New York tax dollars are not going to be spent in North Carolina.
