Former Assembly Speaker Sheldon Silver Free on Bail During Appeal

A federal appeals court has upheld a judge's decision allowing former state Assembly Speaker Sheldon Silver to remain free on bail while he appeals his corruption conviction.

He had been scheduled to report to prison tomorrow to begin his seven-year sentence.

Silver was convicted of charges he received nearly $4 million in bribes. The appeal of his conviction could take months.

The court has set a December deadline for lawyers to file their briefs.
