A court hearing is set for today on motions by lawyers for Charlie Tan to suppress evidence from his upcoming trial on federal gun charges.

At issue is Tan's statement to a deputy after his father was shot to death at the family home in Pittsford in 2015. According to the deputy, Tan appeared to admit to the shooting, saying he had to do it because (his father) was going to kill his mother.

Tan is accused of having a friend buy him a shotgun with the intent of using it to commit a crime. A state murder charge against Tan was dismissed after a jury could not reach a unanimous verdict.
