The SUNY Trustees have voted to authorize nine new charter schools: eight in New York City and one in Rochester. That brings the total number of SUNY-approved charter schools statewide to 125.
In Rochester, the PUC Achieve Charter School will open next August with 100 students in 5th grade under the management of PUC National, a non-profit corporation that currently manages 13 schools in California. One grade per year will be added until the school reaches 400 students in 5th through 8th grade. The school is promising a nurturing learning environment and data-driven instruction.
