Harris Corporation has won a U.S. Army contract for new high-tech radio gear.
The army will first buy 200 of the "Mid-Tier Networking Vehicular Radios." If they work out as expected in a testing program, the army plans to buy 2,500 of them over two years. That would be worth $140 million.
Congresswoman Louise Slaughter said Harris won the contract through an open competition.
About 1,200 people work at the Harris facility in Rochester.
