Wednesday marks the 12th anniversary of the 9/11 attacks in New York and Washington and the Flight 93 crash in Pennsylvania.
A number of observances and sevice events are planned in our area:
-- The Rochester Fire Department along with thePolice Department and the 911 department will host a joint Remembrance Service at 10:00 am on the plaza at the Public Safety Building, 185 Exchange Blvd.
-- Meanwhile, city Fire Chief Salvatore Mitrano and more than 30 firefighters will donate their time and efforts to hunger relief today.
-- A special tribute will take place at the Rochester Educational Opportunity Center. Many of the instructors, who are retired police officers and firefighters, will talk to students about where they were on this day 12 years ago and how it affected their lives and careers.
-- The Brockport Fire Department is holding a ceremony at Station 4 starting at 8:30 a.m. that will include the tolling of a bell at 8:47 a.m. and honor guards all day.
-- Naval ROTC students from the University of Rochester along with Air Force ROTC members from local battalions will hold a small vigil on the Eastman Quadrangle a the university to remember and honor those who died on 9/11.
-- To mark the anniversary, the Rochester Division of the American Heart Association honored more than 30 individuals and organizations at its annual Heart of Rochester reception Tuesday night.
