The polls open Tuesday at noon for primary elections across New York...and here in Rochester, that election essentially decides whether Mayor Tom Richards keeps his job, or City Council President Lovely Warren moves into the office next year.
The Voice of the Voter partnership which includes 13 WHAM TV, the Democrat and Chronicle and WXXI conducted a final poll -- and it finds Mayor Richards increasing his lead over Warren.
If the election were held the day of the poll, 63 percent of the likely Democratic voters surveyed would go for Richards....up from 55 percent three weeks ago. Warren holds at 27 percent support.
Steve Greenberg of the Siena Research Institute told WHAM-1180 that Democrats like both candidates. Nearly 60 percent think well of Lovely Warren; but nearly 75 percent like Richards more. Greenberg said likely Democratic voters, who don't necessarily represent the entire city, believe Rocheter is generally headed in the right direction.
