FAIRPORT, N.Y. (AP) _ Work begins this week on a $2.3 million year-long project to rehabilitate an eight-mile segment of the Erie Canalway Trail in western New York.
The New York State Canal Corporation says the work will be done near Rochester, between Pittsford and Fairport.
The project will be completed in phases so only short segments of the trail will be closed at one time. It's slated to be finished late next year.
The trail improvement is funded under the Rebuild and Renew New York Transportation Bond approved by voters in 2005.
The Erie Canalway Trail is a multi-use trail linking the Hudson River and Lake Erie. More than three-quarters of the 365-mile trail from Buffalo to Albany is now complete.
