(13WHAM)Rochester, N.Y. – Two Rochester Police Officers are credited with saving the life of an 8-year-old girl in Lake Ontario Friday evening, as a storm approached over the shore.
Officers Steve Mitchell and Dave Pearson responded to the Charlotte Pier around 8 p.m. for the report of a boat overturned. As they walked down the pier, the officers noticed a young girl 100 yards off shore screaming for help.
At that time, Mitchell jumped into the water, swam to the young girl, and brought her back to the pier. Pearson pulled both from the water safely. No one was injured.
Afterwards, the officers learned that the young girl had no connection to the overturned boat. The occupants of the overturned boat swam to the shore safely.
