Monroe County Legislature Democrats are now accusing Republican County Executive Maggie Brooks of having the Rainbow Pride Flag taken down from outside their office window in the county building.
Democrats said in a news release their staff was told to remove by a sheriff's deputy that they had to remove the flag or be arrested. They said they were told this was at the request of Brooks' communications staff.
A spokesman for the County Executive said the county doesn't allow items to be displayed on the exterior of the building and only allows government flags to be flown.
Democrats had earlier complained that the county building wasn't flying the rainbow flag on Gay Pride week as City Hall has done for years.
At City Hall, Mayor Tom Richards and representatives of the Gay Alliance of the Genesee Valley and their families did raise the Rainbow Flag last night.
The mayor and council members will be marching in today's Gay Pride Parade in Rochester.
