(13WHAM) Rochester, N.Y. - Rochester, N.Y. -Two adults and two kids escaped before Rochester firefighters arrived on Aberdeen Street but one person was still trapped-- at about 10:00 p.m. Thursday.
Fire units were alerted to the presence of a person trapped on the second floor so they immediately stretched a hose line inside and began making their way to the second floor.
The victim was located in a second floor bedroom and was carried down a ladder from there.
Heavy fire on the first floor briefly trapped the firefighters in the stairwell but a second hoseline knocked the fire back so firefighters could continue to attack the flames. They brought it under control by about 10:40.
One firefighter was injured and remains off duty with second degree burns. The victim was transported to Strong Hospital by Rural Metro Ambulance, and is expected to recover.
The extent of the woman's injuries is unclear, but we're told she was conscious when she was rushed to the hospital.
The RFD is still investigating what caused the fire.
