(13WHAM) Brighton, N.Y. - Today is the deadline for a Brighton teenager to accept a plea deal in connection with a crash that seriously injured three of his friends last year.
A judge rejected a previous plea deal for John Zakhary, saying it was too lenient.
The judge wants Zakhary to serve at least 12 weekends in jail for a guilty plea.
Zakhary is accused of driving recklessly when he slammed into the back of a school bus on Warren Avenue last October.
The last time Zakhary didn’t take a plea deal, the judge indicated that if Zakhary didn’t take this today’s plea deal, it would be withdrawn. The judge also indicated he would not accept a deal unless it included jail time-which was not part of the initial plea offer.
