UPDATE: I-590 has reopened in both directions at the 490 interchange.
Rochester, N.Y. -A tanker carrying food waste tumbled over a ramp of 490 Westbound into the lane for 590 South, crashing into a box truck that was on 590.
The driver of the box truck was killed, the tractor trailer driver was transported to Strong Memorial Hospital.
State Police identified the box truck driver who died as Shawn Wetmore, 40, of Batavia. State Police say the tractor trailer driver is 25-year-old Daniel Baker from Wyoming, N.Y.
Baker is in satisfactory condition at Strong Hospital with a fractured hip. He was ejected from the cab of his truck.
The crash took place at about 1 p.m. according to police. Rochester police, state police and the Brighton Fire Department were among the groups dispatched to 590, following the crash.
The tanker spilled 8,000 gallons of food waste, according to Brighton Fire Chief Stephen MacAdam
Police say they are still investigating why Daniel Baker's Tanker Trailer crashed onto 590 killing the driver of a Box Truck yesterday afternoon.
The driver of that box truck is 40-year-old Shawn Wetmore of Batavia.
The accident resulted in 590 being shut down for several hours while haz-mat cleared the sceene and police cunducted an investigation.
Baker was found ejected from his tanker and was pulled to safety by bystanders before emergency crews took him to the hospital.
