The state Senate has passed legislation criminalizing the possession of synthetic marijuana and so-called bath salts.
A law banning the sale of bath salts was enacted in 2011, and the state has banned the sale and distribution of synthetic marijuana. But possession of the drugs, if purchased in other states is currently still legal.
Synthetic marijuana is an herb sprayed with chemicals and is known on the street as Spice, K2, Cloud 9 and Black 9.
Bath salts are chemically related to methamphetamines or ecstasy and cause harmful physical and psychological reactions.
