(13WHAM) Rochester N.Y-Local congressman Tom Reed has revealed that he has had gastric bypass surgery.
The 41 year old says he been considerning this as a solution to his problem with obesity.
In November 2010, after months on the campaign trail, Reed found himself in a Washington D.C. area hospital on the day he was scheduled to be sworn into office. He had suffered a Pulmonary Embolism which is a condition that involves a blood clot traveling from the leg through the lungs. While his weight was not a direct cause of that clot the experience served as another wake-up call for Reed and his family.
On February 28, 2013 Rep. Tom Reed weighed 310 pounds. On that day he had the surgery at a D.C. area hospital. He was back to work in Congress the following week and 75-days later Reed weighs less than 240 pounds
