(13WHAM )Rochester, N.Y. - The man picked to be the new Monroe County Public Safety Director is a familiar face in Rochester.
Monroe County Executive Maggie Brooks appointed David Moore to the position.
Moore is best known locally for his service as Rochester Police Chief for nearly 5 years under former Mayor Bob Duffy, as well as his tenure as Director of the City’s Office of Public Integrity.
His appointment follows the retirement of Steve Bowman, who had served as Monroe County Public Safety Director since 2004.
In a statement Thursday, Moore said, “I look forward to putting my over twenty five years of law enforcement and management experience to work protecting the safety, security, and general well-being of Monroe County’s nearly 750,000 residents.”
Moore lives in Hilton.
As Director of Public Safety, Moore’s responsibilities will include budgetary review, grant coordination, technical assistance, planning guidance, training services, and management.
Moore will assume his new position in early June.
