(13WHAM) Rochester, N.Y. - There’s new a specialized unit designed to respond to disasters, major emergencies and crisis situations in Monroe County.
It’s called the Monroe County Special Operations Unit.
It includes specialized equipment and possesses the combined capability of Water Rescue – swift water and ice water; Rope Rescue – low angle and high angle; Confined Space – trench collapse and structural collapse; and Hazardous Material Rescue.
Local fire departments and EMS will provide specially-trained personnel for the unit’s rescue operations on a shared-service, voluntary basis.
The Unit was purchased and equipped through New York State Technical Rescue grant funding.
It will stay at the Chili Avenue Station of the Gates Fire District.
The 911 Emergency Communications Center will dispatch it as necessary.
