The latest numbers on sales of existing homes in the Rochester area show a drop in sales for the first quarter compared to the same period last year.
The Greater Rochester Realtors Association says home sales fell just over seven percent. The president of the association, Steve Babbitt says one reason may be that the first quarter last year was unusually strong in terms of home sales due to the mild weather.
The latest report also shows that the median sales price of a home in the Rochester area in the first quarter rose by nearly three and a half percent, which officials say may be due to the fact there are fewer homes coming onto the market.
In terms of new home construction, the Rochester Home Builders Association says that home building permits for the first quarter are at a five year high. Monroe, Ontario and Wayne Counties saw a 20 percent increase compared to last year.
