A local NYS Assemblyman is dismissing speculation State Assembly Speaker Sheldon Silver might be forced out.
Joe Morelle, the Irondequoit Democrat who is also the Assembly Majority Leader, doesn't think much of ideas floated in a New York Post column this week which suggested that Governor Cuomo and his top aides were looking to use the recent political scandals involving some state lawmakers to try and oust Silver from that post.
Morelle, who is basically the second highest ranking member of the
Assembly, says the post report is news to him...
"The members of the Democratic conference are strongly behind the
speaker so I don't think any conversations ever exisited, certainly I'm not a part of them."
And in terms of the recent scandals, Morelle says Assembly officials
can't predict who will turn out to be corrupt, but he does not seem to feel that it is a widespread problem.
