(13-WHAM) Police have made a third arrest related to the case of a neighborhood activist found shot to death.
24-year-old Javan Simmons was charged Monday with second-degree criminal possession of a forged instrument and third-degree grand larceny.
Police say Simmons, with the help of a woman accomplice, opened a new bank account and deposited a check belonging to Edline Chun. Police say they withdrew $5,000.
A man who said he acted as a father figure to Simmons was at his arraignment.
Harvest Wood said he lived across the street from Chun in the Beechwood neighborhood and hopes Simmons didn't have anything to do with her death.
Chun was found dead in Tryon Park in February.
27-year-old Jerrell Henry and his 26-year-old girlfriend Natalie Johnson are accused of shooting Chun during an attempted robbery.
