A vicious attack on an elderly woman has resulted in a conviction.

Michael Ross of Rochester has been convicted by a Monroe County jury of attempted murder and strangulation, in connection with the attack on a 96 year old woman.

The District Attorney's office says that in May of 2011, Ross was helping Vernice wWrfield, who he had known for years, clean windows in her Herkimer Street home when he violently attacked her.

Authorities say  he strangled Warfield until she lost conciousness, and assuming she was dead, he left the house.

But Warfield regained conciousness and called police. Ross was
picked up quickly because he was wearing a monitoring device as a condition of his most recent parole.

When Ross is sentenced next month, he is expected to get up to 25 years to life in prison as a persistent violent felon.
