Xerox has had its signature building in downtown Rochester up for sale for the last few years, and now it has a potential buyer.

The company tells WHAM 1180 News that it has reached an agreement with Buckingham Properties to sell them that 29 story building and then Buckingham would lease the space back to Xerox.

Xerox spokesman Bill McKee says this is the first step in a rather lengthy process, and does not guarantee the sale will happen.

He emphasized that Xerox is committed to this area, and he says if the sale goes through, there will be no changes in work locations for the Xerox employees at that building.

It's all part of Xerox's effort in recent years to focus on its core industries, rather than being involved in real estate. The Xerox Tower at South Clinton Avenue and Court Street is the tallest building downtown.
