The latest state unemployment report for the Rochester area shows a decline of 600 private sector jobs in January compared to January a year ago. The Rochester metro had seen a number of gains in 2010 and 2011, but job growth started slowing down late last year.

Statewide, New York added more than 102,000 private sector jobs in January compared to January of last year.

The statewide unemployment rate in January was 8.4 percent. The Rochester jobless rate will be released next week.
