Footprints in the snow proved to be a catch-22 for a burglary suspect in Rochester Saturday night.

The same prints that led police to his whereabouts also allowed first responders to rescue him from the Genesee River gorge.

Police responded to Dewey Avenue for a report of a possible burglary. When they arrived, two men took off on foot.

Footprints in the snow led authorities, including a K9 unit, to the edge of the gorge near the Holy Sepulchre Cemetery on Lake Avenue.

One of the suspects fell 100 feet down.

After a successful rope rescue, the man was taken to Strong Hospital and treated for hypothermia. His injuries were not life-threatening.
