A smaller, but very popular Wegmans store is ending an era on Saturday.

It’s the East Avenue  store, which is the smallest store in the Wegmans chain. It  been around for about 50 years, and it will be torn down to make way for a bigger parking lot. The new store, which is twice the size of the old one, has been under construction for months now.

Store manager Tony Carnevale feels that customers will really come to appreciate the new store once it's finished, even though some people are nostalgic about the old building…

“A lot of people that feel like they own the store, there's a lot of ownership of it, and being a smaller store, a community store, there's a lot of people that make visiting here regularly for their shopping needs."

The East Ave. Wegmans officially closes at 6pm on Saturday. The pharmacy from that store will be temporarily relocated to a spot across the street, and the new supermarket is scheduled to open on May 19th.
