Could Rochester host the 2024 Olympics? We are one of 35 American cities who has received a letter from the U.S. Olympic Committee to gauge their interest in hosting the games.

The letter was sent to mayors in those cities, with most of them much larger than Rochester. New York is at the top of the list in terms of population, and Rochester at the bottom. The New York Times notes that many cities would not be able to meet the requirement of having 45,000 hotel rooms available for the games.

Cities would also have to construct an Olympic Village to house over 16,000 athletes and have an extensive public transportation network.
