Lakeside Health System is announcing some big changes.

The Brockport based hospital system says that it is working with the state health department to restructure its services. It plans to close its 61 inpatient beds and the Emergency Department in the near future, and concentrate on its long-term, physician and outpatient services.

Officials say that will strengthen the organization financially. Acting CEO James Cummings says that for the last several years, the number of patients admitted to their inpatient beds has continued to decline, as well as the number of patients cared for in the E-R.

The skilled nursing facility will remain open. Hospital officials say Lakeside has been facing a rising deficit. The state would have to sign off on the plan. If that happens, Lakeside's ER and inpatient beds could close within the next two months.

There's no word yet how many jobs could be lost.
