Western New York is under a Winter Storm warning beginning early Friday, and lasting through early Saturday morning.

Here is the weather time line:
Today will be mainly snow free with a high near 30. Late this evening and overnight, weather conditions will deteriorate slowly. By dawn on Friday, light snow will develop and could possibly mix with sleet or freezing rain south of Rochester and east through the Finger Lakes. The temperature will stay in the mid 20s overnight.  Expect less than an inch of snow overnight.

A coastal storm system will intensify through the day Friday and absorb the remains of a storm over Western New York. Under these scenarios, areas north of the Thruway typically find lake enhanced snow when winds turn to the north and northeast.

At this point we think 4-7” of snow will be possible for the daylight hours Friday. The high will reach the lower 30s. Snow and lake enhanced snow will continue Friday night with additional snow accumulation likely, especially north of the Thruway. Another 2-5" of snow could fall during this time.

Many areas will receive between 6-12+" for storm totals by Saturday morning with the greatest totals near Lake Ontario.

Any lake snow showers will taper early Saturday with some sunny breaks returning. Saturday’s high will only be in the lower 20s. Overnight Saturday night, it will become frigid with some areas dropping into the single digits. Sunday becomes mostly sunny and warmer with a high in the mid to upper 30s.
