Seneca Park Zoo officials are announcing the passing of Heathcliff. He is a 48 year old male king vulture who came to the zoo back in 1967.
He was the zoo's oldest animal. It's believed he had kidney failure. They still have his 47 year old female mate, Gertrude, and she is in good health.
Zoo officials say one of Heathcliff's favorite pastimes was being showered, getting a light mist from a hose. After the shower, he would bask with his wings outstretched for almost an hour.
Zoo officials will review the Zoo’s Animal Collection Plan to determine if the Seneca Park Zoo will search for another king vulture.
