The Wayne County Sheriff's Department and federal ATF agents are investigating a burglary at a gun shop in Palmyra.

It happened overnight, either late Monday night or early Tuesday morning at D & M Shooting Sports on Route 31.

Deputies say the thief or thieves took an estimated 30 to 40 handguns and one rifle. None of the guns taken were assault weapons, as defined by the new state gun laws.

Anyone with information is asked to call Wayne County deputies or the Federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms.
