Dozens of people had to leave their apartments on East Main Street near Union St. early Friday night after a boiler malfunctioned.

Firefighters were called to the large building after a report of smoke. Reportedly the furnace overheated. Fire officials said it was possible heat would have to be off at that building for a while.

The Red Cross was also helping out.
