Gates Police say that two people have been charged after a prostitution sting operation.

They say that they have seen a lot of prostitution activity originating on the website "Backpage.com" and because of that the police department periodically carries out enforcement activities.

On Friday morning, a Gates Police Sargeant working undercover arranged to meet a woman who advertised escort services at a local motel. Once there, police say the woman, 33 year old Kristi Simonson of Rochester, went into the bathroom and locked the door. At the same time, police say 21 year old Charod White of Rochester came into the motel room and threatened the officer with a knife when the cop requested a refund.

Other police responded and took White and Simonson into custody. White is facing robbery and weapons possession charges and Simonson is charged with robbery and prostitution. Both also face petty larceny charges.
