Steuben County Deputies say they have detained nearly a dozen illegal immigrants after a traffic stop Tuesday night.
It happened on I-86 in the Town of Avoca. After stopping the vehicle, deputies say they found 11 non-English speaking Hispanic individuals who could not provide adequate documentation for their presence in the U-S. Authorities say those in the vehicle are from several South American countries.
All of them were taken to the Steuben County jail for further investigation. Deputies say that resulted in three people being detained by the U-S Border Patrol for suspected human trafficking.
The other people from that vehicle were detained pending deportation hearings. The driver of the vehicle was ticketed for a traffic violation and unlicensed operation.
