Rochester Gas and Electric  says that over 10,000 customers lost power mostly in Monroe County, and some in Ontario County, early Tuesday evening. The lights went out just after 5:30 p.m.

Most customers affected were on the east side of Monroe County, particularly Perinton and Pittsford.

The problem involved a substation on Jefferson Road in Pittsford. A couple of large circuits were involved.

Parts of Monroe Avenue including Pittsford Plaza were affected. The Wegmans in Pittsford was on generator power for a while.

Power was restored to most customers by 7 p.m. Electricity was restored for nealry everyone else by 10:30 p.m.

Because of the outage, the 6:30 p.m. show of the Capitol Steps at Nazareth College was canceled. Tickets are being honored at the 5pm Tuesday show. But the 10pm Capitol Steps show at Nazareth on Monday night was still scheduled.
