Rochester Police Chief Jim Sheppard is holding a series of "Twitter Town Halls " next month.
This is not the first venture into Twitter for the chief. RPD has been using Twitter for some weeks now to share information.
But this will be the first time Sheppard has decided to hold a public forum via Twitter, something that has increasingly been seen in the worlds of government, business and entertainment.
Anyone can participate as long as you are a follower of the RPD Twitter Feed.
Police department spokesman Sgt. Justin Collins says this is just another way of communicating with various segments of the population...
"I think there's a whole new generation, I think the 30 and under crowd, that use social media, that use texting, Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, as ways to communicate."
The first Twitter Town Hall is on January 8th, from 3 to 4pm. Rochester police are looking to hear about concerns in neighborhoods, and they will also use these sessions to convey information to city residents. Pther sessions will be held on January 15th, 22nd and 29th.
