Senator Chuck Schumer was in Rochester Monday pushing for an extension of federal help for some historic buildings

The New York Democrat is pushing for the extension of a federal tax credit that is due to expire. He made the comments while standing in front of the Academy Building on South Fitzhugh Street in Rochester, which is among the older buildings that are being renovated for apartments and retail space.

Schumer says some of these older buildings are key to rejuvenating downtown areas...@

"Now that we see an influx of business and people coming back downtown, particularly young people, these are gems that could be a lynchpin of our economic recovery and job growth."@

Schumer is also backing another tax credit for historic biudlings which would make more historic buildings eligible for federal aid.
