Rochester firefighters made quick work of a fire on the city's southwest side early Sunday morning.
It happened at 215 Melrose Street at about 6:30 a.m. Two people were home at the time, they were awakened by a smoke detector and got out safely.
The fire apparently was started because of a problem with a furnace. There was damage to the basement and part of the first floor.
The fire was under control in about 15 minutes.
