(13-WHAM) On Thursday night, the Webster School Board voted unanimously to approve full day kindergarten. Currently, Webster is one of the few Monroe County districts that don’t offer a full day kindergarten program.

Supervisor  Adele Bovard says that the entire process of exploring full day kindergarten took about 18 months and included a survey of district residents.

Bovard told 13WHAM that full day kindergarten was necessary because of rising state standards. In a half day program, kindergarteners are only in school for two and a half hours.

The funding for the new full day program would come from conversion aid, or money from the state, money dedicated for schools that switch to full day kindergarten.

That funding is good for three years.
